Field Trip

What is now becoming tradition, the Mineral County Museum and Historical Society visits other museums or sites of historical significance. Last time was to the towns of Mullan and Wallace in Idaho. This time we went the opposite direction to Polson, on the southern shore of Flathead Lake in Flathead Indian Reservation.

13 of us carpooled in 4 cars on Thursday, October 2nd to the Polson Flathead Lake Museum to visit their rich collection of homestead themed items. Claire, Karen, and Daniel treated us like royalty by opening their doors special for us (they close mid-September). We spent time talking about the challenges and opportunities that face each of our museums before given a guided tour. We finished off with a lunch generously provided by them!

In the afternoon we visited the Miracle of America museum also in Polson. There are over 40 buildings that house vintage items ranging from guns and military vehicles to chain saws and snow removal machines. Then there are small buildings with themes such as beauty shops and dentistry. Interspersed throughout are helicopters, a carnival ride, and even a Viking ship!
